Introduction: 16-probe device

    Unlike conventional test system, such kind of multi-probe test system contributes faster and more accurate revolutionary test solutions and result for the electromagnetic realm through the innovative multi-probe technology. It is not only a major innovation for the rear-field testing technology but is also a revolutionary solution to the antenna testing technology.

    In nowadays, the Multi-probe Antenna Test System has become a standard solution required for testing the radio equipment. With its incomparable testing speed, it suggests faster investment return.

    The StarLab is specially designed for the laboratories and production workshops that are normally restricted by the space and cost control and that requires a flexible and east-to-move test system.

    The antenna array accommodating 15 probes can provide high-speed testing and accurate test result with lower reflection rate.

    The bottom side of StarLab is fitted with wheels. With compact size, it can pass through standard double-flap door easily. Besides, one of the wave-absorbing cylinder can be removed for passing through standard single-flap door.  

    When conducting the passive test for the antenna, the StarLab should be connected to another network analyzer. When conducting the active test such as the OTA efficacy test for the cell phone or other mobile telephone, the StarLab should be connected to a radio communication tester, with a cell phone deployed at the center position of the multi-probe array in the StarLab in order to test the power emission and the receiving sensitivity of the entire unit along the respective direction in the 3D space.

    Unlike the conventional single-probe mechanical scanning, the StarLab is developed according to the patented SATIMO multi-probe technology where the electronic scanning is achieved through these 15 units of probes deployed in the StarLab. In this way, the entire spherical face test can be achieved by rotating the test object mechanically for 1800 of azimuth.

    By comparing with the conventional Single-probe Test System, the full-scale 3D suggests faster test speed.

    As far as mini-size antenna is concerned, the 22.5°-type space sample will be sufficient for defining the radiation pattern. For larger-sized antenna requiring better sampling number, the StarLab can provide unique mode solution comprising electronic scanning and mechanical scanning that it allows the probe array to rotate within ±11.25°. Because such kind of alignment offsetting shall be enough for filling up the variation of azimuth between probes, infinite sample number can be realized.

    By combining vertical-type mechanical scanning and 15-probe type of electronic scanning, it means that the high-speed/full-scale automatic test system will not be limited in verticality and azimuth aspects.

    When conducting the radiation sensitivity test and other internal disturbance tests for the cell phone, SATIMO provides a package-based Mini Shielding Chamber. Such Shielding Chamber is provided with a conic wave-absorbing sponge on both walls opposite to the absorbing cylinder opening area.
